भारतरत्न, माजी राष्ट्रपती आणि शिक्षक डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन यांची जयंती दरवर्षी ५ सप्टेंबर रोजी शिक्षक दिन म्हणून साजरी केली जाते. शिक्षणाबद्दल डॉ. राधाकृष्णन यांना अतिशय जिव्हाळा होता. शिक्षण क्षेत्रात अधिकाधिक विकास घडून यावा यासाठी ते आयुष्यभर प्रयत्नशील होते.

चांगल्या शिक्षकांचा सन्मान हा संस्कृतीचा, सत्याचा व ज्ञानाचा सन्मान आहे. समाजाचा विकास सत्तेने होत नाही, यंत्राने होत नाही तर तो आदर्श शिक्षकांमुळे होत असतो. शिक्षकांचे महत्त्व असाधरण आहे हे जाणल्याशिवाय आपली तांत्रिक व यांत्रिक प्रगती होणार नाही.

ज्या देशामध्ये शिक्षकाला सर्वत्र मान व प्रतिष्टा असते तेथील प्रज्ञावंत माणसे शिक्षण क्षेत्रातच अधिकाधिक आढळून येतात. असे देश सर्वांगीण प्रगती करू शकतात. समाजाला सुसंस्कृत करणारा शिक्षक हा देशाचा आधार आणि दिलासा आहे. त्यामुळे नागरिकांनी या पवित्र व्यवसायाचा सन्मान केला पाहिजे.

एक कुलगुरू हा गुरुकुलाचा आद्य आचार्य असावयास हवा. ज्ञानाने, तापाने, चारित्राने तो सगळ्यांच्या अग्रस्थानी असावा. हे वाक्य कुलगुरू, प्राध्यापक, आणि एक शिक्षक म्हणून डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन यांना पूर्णतः लागू होते. एक शिक्षक शिष्याला ज्ञान देताना परिपूर्ण असावा असे त्यांचे मत होते. डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन यांनी अनेक विषयांचा अभ्यास केला होता.

संस्कृत भाषेचा अभ्यास करून त्यांनी प्रस्थानत्रयी आणि समग्र भाष्यग्रंथ अभ्यासले. पश्चिमेकडचे तत्त्वज्ञानातील प्लेटो, प्लॉटनिस, कान्ट, ब्रॅडले यांच्यासारख्या तत्त्वज्ञांच्या ग्रंथांचा त्यांनी अभ्यास केला. त्याचप्रमाणे इंग्रजी साहित्यातील शेक्सपिअर, कोलारीज, ब्राउनिंग, वॊल्ट विटमन इत्यादी साहित्यिकांच्या लेखन शैलीचा त्यांनी अभ्यास केला. तसेच गटे, डानटे, होमर यांसारख्या महाकवींची काव्यसृष्टी अनुभवली. त्यामुळे एक परिपूर्ण शिक्षक म्हणून संपूर्ण जगाने डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन यांचा गौरव केला.

डॉ. सर्वपल्ली राधाकृष्णन हे स्वतः एक उत्तम शिक्षक असल्यामुळे त्या पेशाबद्दल वाटणारे प्रेम आणि त्यासाठी केलेले ४० वर्षांचे कार्य यांचा सन्मान करण्यासाठी भारत सरकारने ५ सप्टेंबर हा त्यांचा जन्मदिवस 'शिक्षकदिन' म्हणून साजरा करण्याचे जाहीर केले.

Since thousands of years our country India celebrates the Teachers Day by the name Guru Pournima, to honouring the contribution of teachers who plays a vital role in the established society to create future Decision makers-takers, leaders, thinkers, artists, industrialists, Law makers, and all professions.  Hence the phrase “Teacher is the Profession which creates all other Professions”.

The society where we live is the result of past decisions taken by decision makers-takers who lead the society forward but when they look backward they definitely realize that they guided by the Teachers, Mentors.  No matter who is the Teacher or Mentor or Guide.! Because the guide, mentor, teacher is the person who shows us the right way, the path we should follow, give us the direction to go ahead.  

In Marathi language we say “Balak-Palak-Shikshak”, is the triangle of learning and teaching to children.  Means “Children-Parents-Teachers” combinely form a Triangle of Education. If children is the one side of education-learning then other two must be Parents and Teachers.

Obviously from home Parents are our first Teachers.  As the teacher is the second side of Learning Triangle of a kid.    Third side of learning should be parents, but we can’t, (shouldn’t is better) put all the responsibility only one side to teacher.

In previous history of our Indian education system we come to know that two sides of parents and teachers are done by the teacher himself due to  the tradition of that time. i.e. The Gurukul Education System, where the Guru the teacher is responsible of these children’s education by both the side Parents and Teachers automatically the Education or Learning Triangle complete.

In Gurukul Education System, parents send his children to the Teacher called GURU, who lives away from villages, stays in jungle and teach all the Students all subjects which are actually depend on each other. And today’s education system which is established by Britishers as they want for their need for follow the orders and eventually gurukul education system goes lost.

Due to the contemporary reasons of that time even after Independence of India we don’t have more or no options except to accept the pre-established education system by the Britihers.  We still follow their system. 

The reason behind this all topic to know the current education system and why the first founding fathers of todays India and all the Systems including Education system is not serving and supportive to India is Change according to  Indian culture, and, forgotten and non-acceptance of  the cultural values and systems of traditional India.

Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan is one of these founding fathers of India who set the vision to go forward towards the future goals that still achieving in various sectors but as when it comes to education systems Indian Education system is still under slavery of Britishers.  But they do their best and give their best out of the rest efforts for the India. 

 Who said that books are the means by which we build bridges between cultures, then the answer is obvious Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan always support Reading as he is the best reader, teacher, president of India and Education Minister. He knew the power of education hence they say books are the means by which we build bridges between cultures.

Teachers Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was the first vice president of India (1952-1962) and also a teacher and philosopher. This day is observed to honour the bond between the children and their mentors who influence their lives in several ways.

Dr Radhakrishnan was also the second president of India (1962-1967). Despite all his accomplishments and contributions, Dr Radhakrishnan remained a teacher throughout his life. He believed that true teachers are those who help us think for ourselves, so they should be the best minds in the nation.

In India, September 5 is marked as Teacher's Day, whereas Worlds Teacher's Day is celebrated every year on October 5. This day is an important event in both teachers' and students' lives. 1. Dr Radhakrishnan was born to a Brahmin family in Tiruttani of Andhra Pradesh on September 5, 1888. He was considered an incredible student and also an exemplary teacher who dedicated his life to education.

2. Dr Radhakrishnan was a popular teacher among his students during his teaching career. In his later period of life, he served as a vice chancellor of Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.

3. The beliefs of Dr Radhakrishnan have motivated thousands to take up education.

4. When Dr Radhakrishan took the office of the second president of India in 1962, his students sought his permission to celebrate September 5 as a special day. Dr Radhakrishnan instead made a request to observe September 5 as Teachers’ Day to recognise the contribution of teachers to society. He said, "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teacher's Day." Since then, his birthday is celebrated as Teacher's Day.

5. Dr Radhakrishnan was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian honour.
